As I mentioned in the previous post Dad and Ronnie (Guide from the Rock n' Rolls tour) really hit it off while we drove around London for 4 1/2 hours! Dad had such a great time that he could hardly stop smiling the rest of that day... nor could he sleep at night! The morning after the tour he couldn't wait to tell us what he had remembered at 3:00am since he couldn't sleep because he was thinking of all the cool stuff he saw! He had remembered that the next day was George Harrison's birthday (one of many dates he has just drifting around in his brain!) To him this only meant one thing... he HAD to go to Liverpool to The Beatles Story Museum! Mom and I just looked at each other like...ok?? This was not to high on our list and especially not after seeing that train tickets were going to cost about 250 pounds each. So Dad said he would go alone and we could just have a girls day here in London, sounded great to us!
Here is where the story gets good... Dad half jokingly, half serious said that I should email Ronnie his plan and invite him along on the train if he wanted. So I did and Ronnie responded, "Tell him I'll pick him up at 8:00 AM if he wants to split the petrol!" We all were dying laughing and Dad was overflowing with excitement that his new buddy was actually willing to drive him in his Rolls Royce almost 4 hours each way to Liverpool for the day! So the next morning he got picked up right out in front of our flat and they "Rolled" off on an approx 13 hour tour! Talk about a birthday surprise to remember, even bigger then I had planned!!!
(Dad in front of The Beatles Story... Ronnie sent us this pic along with many others after his day out!)
Meanwhile, while Dad was off on his "royal adventure" Mom and I enjoyed some girl time here in London. To start the day I brought her to the Orchid Festival at the Royal Botanic Kew Gardens! I had been wanting to check it out and was so happy it worked for us to go while she was here since she loves flowers so much!
It was amazing... so many beautiful orchids in huge arrangements! We were snapping pictures like crazy! Here are a few favorites...
Once we were done at the Orchid Festival we took off into the city and I showed her Fortum & Mason and Liberty, two famous and fancy department stores!
The lovely hat section in Fortum & Mason. Way to expensive to buy but fun to look at!
Then we wandered into the Laduree macaroon shop and
picked a few sweet treats to go!
Mom enjoyed the window shopping and seeing some pretty funky things in some places! She thought I should buy this dress for Easter! ;) Hard to tell in the picture but it had some pretty crazy looking big gel flowers all over!
Here is the entrance to Liberty, it is has been open since 1875! In 1924 it was reconstructed using timbers from two ships so it is very unique looking on the inside!
After browsing around Liberty for a little while it was definitely time for lunch since it was getting late in the afternoon. We found a pub nearby and had a nice lunch and glass of wine...
After we ate we made our way to Munch's house for his afternoon walk. He liked seeing Mom again and having her pet him!
That night we went out for pizza at Franco Manca our favorite pizza place here in Chiswick. While we ate, we listened to Dad gush about his exciting day and filled him in on ours too. What a great day!
