July 31st (my last day of work in London) we stayed at a hotel down at Gatwick airport since we had a 6:20AM departure the next morning to fly to Dubrovnik, Croatia to start our 2 week holiday! As it turned out we overlapped our friends Amy & David for one day/night who were at the end of their 2 week holiday. We didn't plan this and figured it out after each of us had booked which was super exciting!
After we arrived at our hotel by taxi we went down to the port in the Old Town where Amy & David picked us up by the boat they had rented for the day!
This was such a great way to spend the day since it was really hot out! Since David is from North Carolina he is familiar with boating in the ocean so he made a great captain in the Adriatic Sea.
He took us along the many nearby islands which were very beautiful with how rocky they are...

Eventually we dropped anchor near some coves and sea caves and we all jumped in to cool off and swim around for awhile.
Such a fun and relaxing day...
Later we went to a restaurant on an island for lunch. This was the nice view...
After we were done eating the guys did a great job getting us back out on the water.
We did some more cruising around and passed the island in the pictures below which looked like a nice place...
To finish the afternoon we found another cove to swim in.
It was a great day being on the water
with the wind in our hair!
We were able to see way more then we would have been able to if we hadn't rented a boat...So glad our trips happened to overlap!
Later that night the 4 of us had dinner and they shared their tips for the rest of our time in Croatia and Greece. Then it was time to say goodbye since they were leaving in the the morning to fly back to London.
The Old Town of Dubrovnik which is enclosed in city walls is where we were staying. In a way it felt like we were staying in a big castle. Here are a few pictures of the area near our hotel the next morning. Such a unique place...
We loved the lanterns that were hanging everywhere...
After breakfast Brian and I took the ferry to Lokrum Island which was only about a 10 min ride from the Old Town port.
Looking back at Dubrovnik Old Town...
Lokrum Island...
Again it was very hot and we were happy to be near the water.
We swam and Brian even did some cliff jumping!
The views from the island were gorgeous.
Also it was pretty entertaining that there were peacocks wandering all around the island!
Later that night we saw the ceremonial guards march through the streets of Old Town. We also walked out of the city walls through one of the exits to take a look at the views from the other side.
The following day we walked to a beach just outside of the city walls.
We spent most of the day relaxing here...
In the early evening we took a cable car up the mountain which overlooks Dubrovnik, Old Town and the surrounding islands.
On the way up...
The view at the top was spectacular!
We had a couple drinks at the restaurant while we enjoyed the scenery.
As we were heading down the sun was beginning to set over the islands and it was so pretty.
Back down in Old Town...
We really enjoyed Dubrovnik and our night ended with dinner, wandering the streets and of course I dragged Brian into a few shops :)
The next morning we flew to Athens, Greece. (Separate post on that portion to follow.)
